NDIS sleepovers, and how to claim the nights nobody sleeps
What counts as a night-time sleepover under the NDIS Pricing Schedule 2026–27, what the sleepover price covers, and how to claim active support from the third hour.
A sleepover is claimed as one item per night: $311.79 (national limit, 2026–27) for Assistance with Self-Care. That price includes up to 2 hours of active support. From the third hour, active time is claimed on top: at the Saturday rate on a weekday, or at that day's rate on a Saturday, Sunday or public holiday.
What counts as a sleepover
The NDIS Pricing Schedule 2026–27 defines a night-time sleepover as support on any day, including weekends and public holidays, that:
- starts before midnight and finishes after midnight,
- runs for a continuous period of 8 hours or more, and
- lets the worker sleep when they aren't providing support.
If the worker is expected to stay awake all night, it isn't a sleepover. It's an active overnight support, claimed at the time of day rates.
The item and the price
| Support | Item | 2026–27 national limit |
|---|---|---|
| Assistance with Self-Care Activities, night-time sleepover | 01_010_0107_1_1 | $311.79 each |
| Supported Independent Living, night-time sleepover | 01_832_0115_1_1, 01_832_0138_1_1 | $311.79 each |
| Short Term Accommodation, sleepover | 01_206_0115_1_1 | $311.79 each |
The unit is "each": one per sleepover. Remote and very remote limits are $436.51 and $467.69. For comparison, the 2025–26 national limit was $297.60. There's no separate public holiday sleepover price: the same price applies on any day.
Active time: the first 2 hours are included
The sleepover price includes up to 2 hours of active support across the whole sleepover. The schedule says that where more than 2 hours of active support is provided, the provider may claim the third and later hours:
- on a weekday: at the Saturday rate, not the night rate
- on a Saturday, Sunday or public holiday: at that day's rate
For self-care, that's 01_013_0107_1_1 (Saturday, $103.54 an hour), 01_014_0107_1_1 (Sunday, $133.50) or 01_012_0107_1_1 (public holiday, $163.46).
Here's what's claimed on top of the sleepover for a weekday night, at 2026–27 national limits:
| Active time in the night | Claimed on top | Amount |
|---|---|---|
| 45 minutes | Nothing: within the 2 hours | $0.00 |
| 2 hours | Nothing: within the 2 hours | $0.00 |
| 3 hours | 1 hour at the Saturday rate | $103.54 |
| 5 hours | 3 hours at the Saturday rate | $310.62 |
Two easy mistakes are claiming awake time after the first hour, and claiming it at the weekday night rate. Neither matches the current rule: the first 2 hours are included, and weekday hours after that use the Saturday rate.
Nights that run across two days
A Friday sleepover finishes on a Saturday, and a Saturday one finishes on a Sunday. The schedule doesn't say which day's rate applies to active time in a night like that. Its general rule for supports that cross days is that the higher rate applies to the whole support, and that's the approach we take. If you take a different view, check it with the NDIA and apply it consistently.
Keep a record of the awake time
Claims for active time beyond 2 hours depend on knowing when the worker was up and what they did. It's worth having workers record each period of active support with its start and end time, and having the office check it before the time is claimed.
How Fully Funded Shifts handles it
Workers log awake periods from the shift on their phone. Once the office approves them, the first 2 hours are included and any time past that is added as its own invoice line, at the Saturday rate on weekdays or that day's rate otherwise, rounded up to the next 5 minutes. The awake line never changes the rate of the active hours either side of the sleep period. Worker pay is worked out separately, under the award.

Questions about sleepovers
How much active support does an NDIS sleepover include?
Up to 2 hours across the whole sleepover. From the third hour, active support can be claimed on top of the sleepover item.
What rate is awake time claimed at on a weekday sleepover?
The Saturday rate, for each hour past the first 2. On a Saturday, Sunday or public holiday, it's that day's rate.
Is there a public holiday sleepover rate?
No. The sleepover item has one price for every day. Only active time past 2 hours is claimed at the public holiday rate.
How long does a sleepover have to be?
At least 8 continuous hours, starting before midnight and finishing after it, with the worker allowed to sleep when not needed.
